Kaoshiung city is gradually realizing the goal of “net zero emissions” as it joined the Powering Past Coal Alliance in 2020, and published the Kaohsiung City Voluntary Local Review (VLR) in 2021.
The CEO of Circular Taiwan Network, Shadow Chen, was invited to moderate the session: Urban Circular Economy Experience Sharing.The deputy mayor Ta-Sheng Lo, the Director General, Jui-Hun Chang, shared the progress and plans of Kaohsiung City on bio-waste and industrial waste. The industrial leader TSMC and ASE shared their strategies and metrics to reach the goal of ‘zero waste’. Chika Aoki-Suzuki from the IGES analyzed the international trend on circular economy, and Peter Portheine from the Brainport Smart District of Eindhoven City explained their hand-on experience on the pilot project.
During the panel discussion, speakers all agreed that on the path towards net-zero emission, nobody is an outsider; Circular collaboration is critical to achieve the resource efficiency and circular economy.
